Frequent acne sufferers know that sometimes, even after a particularly aggressive pimple is gone, it can leave behind a nagging reminder of its presence in the form of a scar. These blemishes can add unwanted texture to the skin and be notoriously difficult to lighten or smooth. Dr. Zenovia Scar Gel, a recently released treatment that has made its rounds on TikTok’s #FYP pages, aims to do just that.

Users have described this scar-focused product as a lightweight, non-irritating gel that absorbs quickly into the skin, is invisible under makeup, and targets existing scars while preventing new ones from forming. With regular use, reviewers claimed the gel made their marks noticeably clearer and their skin felt softer, more hydrated, and healthier than before.

HuffPost was curious to find out what exactly makes this silicone product particularly effective. Elaine F. Kung, New York board-certified dermatologist and founder of Future Bright Dermatology, listed the ingredients.

“For years I’ve told my patients that ingredients that help fight acne often also help with acne scars,” Kung said. “I find that many ingredients [in the Dr. Zenovia Scar Gel] are beneficial for acne, discoloration and skin barrier repair. ”

Kung pointed to bromelain and papain, which she says are fruit-derived enzymes that have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Both are beneficial for reducing skin discoloration and for promoting wound healing.

″[Also,] green tea polyphenols are anti-inflammatories, antimicrobials and antioxidants that have been shown to reduce sebum production in some clinical studies,” she said.

It’s not just the acne-fighting ingredients that make this treatment such a crowd pleaser. Kung said a blend of potent antioxidants and topicals in the gel formulation is helpful in retexturing the skin. Ingredients such as topical soy isoflavones have been shown to improve epidermal thickness, while bakuchiol, a more tolerable alternative to retinol, may help improve acne, skin tone and skin texture. skin and promote wound healing as it stimulates the production of collagen.

When using this product, one thing Kung and reviewers emphasized was that consistency and patience are needed to get the best possible results. In fact, the instructions say to apply the gel three times a day for eight weeks on new scars and twice a day for three to six months on old scars.

Dr. Zenovia’s product line is not limited to scar gel only. This clinical skincare brand focuses primarily on acne-prone skin and addresses the spectrum of symptoms that accompany it. A soothing aloe vera moisturizer, 5% benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, and vitamin C brightening toner have also become popular among TikTok users.

Promising Sephora reviews:

“I tried Dr Zenovia’s scar treatment and was happy with the results. I had an operation for skin cancer on my abdomen and it worked great. The scar is much less noticeable and so is the redness. I highly recommend it.” – Glambertgirl

“It’s been great for helping to reduce the bad scars from my adult acne. I like that you only need to apply a small amount. The ingredients aren’t harsh and gentle on skin sensitive. I really like that it’s cruelty-free. It’s great for anyone struggling with any form of acne. – acaine73

“I’ve been using this on my new scar for 6 weeks now. I can tell a big difference in color, texture and size. Although I had trouble remembering to apply it the 3 times recommended by day I have managed to apply it at least once a day I plan to continue using it and start using it on some older scars now that I know it works well – bwburleson

“I used it on a fresh new scar I got from a big pimple. From the first time I used it, I noticed a reduction from the outer edge of my scar. As I continued to use it, I noticed that the scar diminishes more in size and is less pigmented. I have also used it on older pimple scars but did not find immediate results. I will continue to use it on them as the results are slower depending on the age of the scar. – Rosybelle11
