During the winter months, my sensitive skin is more prone to breakouts than usual, so I’m constantly on the lookout for an overnight product that will help prevent those pesky pimples without causing irritation (and, ideally, , brighten my skin and blur the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles). Now my research is over thanks to the discovery of Biossance Squalane Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum ($ 62).

The key active in the formula, a 10 percent concentration of lactic acid, is gentle enough for sensitive skin, but still tackles discoloration and hyperpigmentation while you sleep. Like other members of the alpha hydroxy acid family, lactic acid works by melting the “glue” that holds dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, and helps brighten and even out skin tone. skin tone and texture. By getting rid of those dead cells, it’s also less likely that dirt and oil will get trapped in your pores, meaning the ingredient plays a role in preventing breakouts as well. And what is more? It also helps with hydration, which can help decrease the appearance of wrinkles. With that in mind, it’s no wonder it’s been rated as a âdo-it-allâ ingredient by the brand (for what it’s worth, dermatologists love it, too).
In addition to lactic acid, the serum also contains clover, which stimulates cell renewal to enhance its exfoliating effects, and squalane, which the skin was previously called “the big mouthful of moisture”. The entire blend is vegan, cruelty-free, and paraben-free, which makes it even more appealing to those of us with irritable skin.
After the purchase, I immediately noticed the texture of the serum. It’s thick enough to really hydrate your skin, yet light enough not to clog pores. I’m also generally concerned about the scent (which is usually a no-no for sensitive skin) and was pleasantly surprised that the serum didn’t. It just smelled super clean and was really gentle on my skin.
I have been using the product for just over a month and it has quickly become a staple in my nighttime skincare routine. Although I didn’t notice any immediate results, I did start to see brighter skin after about three weeks. It also reduced my discoloration to give me a more even skin tone and lessened the appearance of dark circles on my eyes. What about wrinkles? The ones on my forehead and between my eyebrows are noticeably less noticeable than before I started using the serum.
More importantly, I tend to go crazy when trying out new products, especially if they are exfoliating. But in this case, I didn’t get a single pimple, and I noticed real improvement in my acne scars.
As someone who tends to shy away from scrubs (# sensitive skin issues), I was pleasantly surprised to find out how much I love this product. It does what it’s supposed to do, and a single $ 62 bottle has enough product to last me a few months, making it a worthy investment in IMHO. It has kept my skin hydrated, clear, and non-irritated, and will definitely be a staple in my routine for the foreseeable future.
