Becoming comfortable in her own skin has been a journey for Eboni K. Williams. The Real Housewives of New York The rookie recently opened up about her “debilitating” struggle with acne and how her relationship with makeup has changed over the years.

“Anyone who has suffered from [acne] or continue to suffer from it will tell you how it really affects your whole life,” she revealed in an interview with We weekly. “It’s very hard to feel good in this world — especially in this Instagram world — when you don’t feel good about who you are.

Eboni struggled with “severe” acne in her late teens and early twenties, which led her to feel “addicted” to wearing foundation to cover her skin. “I wouldn’t go to the grocery store without a full face,” said the RHONY said the lawyer. “It was just really debilitating.”

After trying various treatments, including Accutane and Retin-A, Eboni finally found a skincare routine that helped her feel more confident than ever. Its proven brand: SkinCeuticals. For the past eight years, she’s been using the brand’s CE Ferulic serum ($166), which she’s called her “holy grail” vitamin C serum. Eboni also uses the brand’s AGE Eye Complex ($100) to fight puffiness under the eyes as well as Physical Fusion UV Defense ($35) as a daily sunscreen.

Plus, Eboni’s beauty arsenal includes CVS Hydrating Facial Lotion ($12) to hydrate her skin and Shani Darden Skin Care Retinol Reform ($88) to treat signs of aging. The RHONY actor tops off his stash with Clean and Clear Persa Gel 10 ($5), which Eboni says is the “best spot treatment on the market.”

Armed with products that work for her, Eboni said she was able to appreciate makeup instead of relying on it. “Getting my skin to a place where I’m confident I can come out with just a little moisturizer and feel as good as I do with a full face has been a process,” she said. “I love makeup and I love glam, but it really starts at the base of the skin. It’s your canvas. Having what I call a ‘makeup optional skin’ is really important.”
