Ferrari News – Aston Martin expects Ferrari to be ‘really hard to beat’ in 2021

Contents: Otmar Szafnauer, CEO of Aston Martin, predicts that Ferrari, which will present its new car today for the 2021 F1 season, will be much tougher competitors this year.

What they say

Aston Martin finished fourth in the championship last year as Racing Point, seven points behind McLaren after being deducted from 15 points, with Renault (now Alpine) and Ferrari behind them. Szafnauer predicts that the four will be the mix for third place in the championship this year.

I think it would be reckless for us not to care about those behind us and to look right in front of us. I think we have to do a good job. The midfielder is more and more competitive. It becomes much more difficult.

I can’t see Ferrari staying where they finished, sixth, forever, so they’re going to be really tough to beat this year and beyond. McLaren beat us last year in third place. They will be difficult. Renault also has the power of a manufacturer behind them, it will not be easy with the arrival of Alonso, double world champion. So it will be very, very difficult for us to finish at the top of this midfielder.

It’s not going to be easy. And yes, at the same time we want to look at the guys who finished ahead of us and get closer to Mercedes and Red Bull. We also want to get closer to them. So the task is great, but we are up to the challenge and we will work hard and do our best to achieve it.

Lundgaard over time was not beaten in the afternoon

Alpine junior driver Christian Lundgaard led the second day of Formula 2 testing at the Bahrain International Circuit for ART. His best time of 1’41.697 allows him to have three tenths ahead of Bent Viscaal for Trident.

Ferrari junior Marcus Armstrong finished third for DAMS, the trio achieving all their fastest times in the morning race. Dan Ticktum was the fastest in the afternoon for Carlin and finished the day fourth overall. Liam Lawson for Hitech and Robert Shwartzman for Prema secured the end of the day with six different teams in the top six. However, the pair HWA Matteo Nannini and Alessio Deledda finished the day at the bottom of the times.
