My suddenly enlarged pores: they could be karma for all the times I’ve mentally criticized the blackheads of pretty much anyone who’s ever had my nails done at the salon. But the most viable causes of the tiny holes on my cheeks and nose could also be face masks, weather changes, and aging.

“The size and number of pores vary widely depending on gender, location on the body and ethnicity,” said Tiffany Libby, board-certified dermatologist, in a recent interview with Brydie. “Like many other traits, they are largely the result of genetics.” Oily skin is more likely to have clogged pores, which inhibits excess oil and bacteria, resulting in whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples.

While Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) facials have always done the trick to control my acne and help visibly diminish the appearance of my pores, I have successfully tackled this unhappiness with a face mask. clay in particular: the Glow recipe. Watermelon Glow Hyaluronic Clay Skin-tight Facial.

BUY: Zipporah, $ 53

Whipped and fluffy in texture, this new formula won’t dry out or crack on the skin as it sets on the face, unlike traditional clay masks which often leave your face dry and tense. Providing a soothing and refreshing experience, it hydrates and decongests the skin using watermelon enzymes, PHA and BHA, and ultra-fine blueberry seed powder.

When battling acne and rashes, the goal is to cleanse your pores while allowing oxygen to flow freely through them, so bacteria cannot multiply. Fueled with hyaluronic acid and kaolin clay, it provides instant hydration while gently exfoliating the skin for a clearer complexion. What I love most about this mask is that it works in just five short minutes – acting as the perfect prep for selfies and Zoom video calls without the skin blur filter.

I find this formula more effective after a hot shower or after spraying my face with my mini steam (the steam helps open my pores so that the mask penetrates better). In addition to penetrating inside these pores, it provides a gentle physical and chemical exfoliation to help lighten the skin.

While the Watermelon Glow Hyaluronic Clay Pore-Tight Facial didn’t make much of a difference regarding hormonal acne on my chin, it dramatically altered the texture and wear of my makeup around my nose and between my eyebrows. Over the past week and a half, I have noticed less bumps and shine.
