Maude Apatow battled ‘bad’ acne while filming ‘Euphoria’

For Maude Apatow, playing a teenager on “Euphoria” came with some very related skin issues.

“When I started working out and wearing more makeup, my skin got a lot worse,” the 24-year-old actress, who plays Lexi Howard on the hit HBO series, admitted during her Vogue interview. “Beauty Secrets” Thursday.

“I was shooting ‘Euphoria’ a few months ago and I had three gigantic pimples on my forehead – you couldn’t cover them, they were so big. And they held on,” Apatow recalled, adding that the breakout was “so serious”, she urged director Sam Levinson to “pay attention to the lighting”.

To control her complexion, the star swears by a few golden rules in terms of skincare. “The one big thing I’ve learned…is to make sure all your makeup comes off at the end of the day,” she said.

The actress, who is the eldest daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, also makes it a point to avoid picking on blemishes.

“I definitely learned not to pick my skin because it spreads,” she said. “I never believed it when people told me that. Then I learned that if I pop pimples, they travel.

Finally, Apatow had to “find products that do not [her] have a blast” and stick to a skincare routine. She uses two products from Obagi Medical — Nu-Derm Toner ($43) and IDR Exfoliating & Hydrating Lotion ($75) — to prep her face, as well as Jillian Dempsey Hydrating Eye Masks ($75) and VI Derm SPF 50 Daily UV Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen ($40).

Next, she’s ready for makeup, which has become a key part of the “Euphoria” aesthetic.

“They sent us so much makeup for season 2 because makeup was such a big part of season one,” Apatow said, adding, “We called the Sephoria makeup trailer.”
