The best bases for uneven skin texture that are the key to my makeup routine

Like browsing the jeans I feel best in (this is a wide leg style from Reformation, BTW) or my favorite workout shoes (looking at you, Ultraboost from Adidas), finding a base for uneven skin texture has brought a lot of trial and error. As a teenager I would apply layers on layers of any full coverage foundation I could get my hands on (usually Estée Lauder’s beloved Double Wear). But over the years, I’ve discovered a few gems that are a bit lighter on my skin, while still giving it a subtle glow.

Although my skin has cleared up considerably over the years thanks to Accutane (more on that here), I still have to deal with a bumpy texture and uneven tone. So, I’m looking for foundations that cover the redness while smoothing out the roughness, which is specifically located on my forehead and a little around my cheeks. Also, since I have combination skin that leans on the drier side, I look for formulas that make my skin look a bit pink.

And, in addition to a foundation for an uneven texture, I have found that primer, powder, and setting sprays are all key players in my regimen. Below is a photo of me wearing Clé de Peau’s Beauté Radiant Fluid Foundation, which is my new go-to formula (you’ll see why below).

Sobel Skin RX broad spectrum mineral based SPF 50

Whether I wear foundation or not, I always apply sunscreen in the morning (and you should too!). Lately I’ve loved Sobel Skin’s RX Mineral-Based Broad Spectrum SPF 50. This formula doesn’t smell like sunscreen at all, plus it rubs on my skin without leaving a residue. On top of that, this SPF helped minimize the appearance of my uneven skin tone with continued use.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

Before my foundation, I start with the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. When I prepare with this formula, I notice that my foundation glides on more smoothly and looks more even on my skin. All you need is a pump or two for your whole face, to make the bottle last a while.

Beauty Blender Makeup Sponge

Whatever formula I use, I always apply it with the iconic Beauty Blender sponge. This is because the sponge gives me a more natural finish, whereas a foundation brush tends to make my skin a little mushy. Pro tip: clean your sponge with a mild cleanser before using it to remove product residue.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Then it’s the star of the show – my foundation. I have been using Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation for years now because I can always count on it to give my skin a smooth look and a rosy finish. Yes, it’s worth the hype. As a rule of thumb, I’ll use one coat of the formula and then add more anywhere you can still see redness. The result is glowing, healthy-looking skin every time.

Huda Beauty GloWish Multidew Vegan Skin Foundation

On days when I’m looking for something light, I pull out the new Teint Vegan GloWish Multidew Foundation from Huda Beauty. While I like the dew, it can be a bit too much. Therefore, I will usually need to reapply powder after a few hours of applying the product as I find my T-zone sometimes feels oily. Like Giorgio Armani’s foundation, I’ll apply one layer of this formula and put more back on areas that need extra coverage.

Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Fluid Foundation

My favorite foundation lately is – drum roll, please – Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Fluide Foundation. To be honest I never imagined I would already finding a formula that I loved more than my trusty Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, but it turns out I love this baby a little more. Why? Well, for starters, it gives my skin the perfect amount of glow. And while the price tag is steep, a little goes a long way with the formula. If you can believe it, a generous pump usually covers my entire face. Plus, this long-lasting foundation keeps me going all day (read: very minimal touch-ups required).

Urban Decay Stay Naked Concealer Concealer

When it comes to concealers, I go for creamy products that cover my occasional dark circles – and Urban Decay Stay Naked Correcting Concealer does the trick. After my foundation, I apply this baby under my eyes, on my forehead and on my nose. Unlike some concealers I’ve used in the past, this one doesn’t wrinkle at midday.

Anastasia beverly hills Loose Setting Powder

To lock everything in, I’m going to dust Anastasia Beverly Hills on my T-zone and my cheeks, generally avoiding my entire face so as not to look. too much mast. But since it’s translucent, you can’t even tell I’m wearing powder.

Luminous dew mist for Tatcha skin

My makeup routine isn’t over until I spray Tatcha’s Luminous Skin Dew Mist all over my face. I’ve been obsessed with this product since I first tried it a few years ago – I’ve probably been through more than a dozen bottles (yes, that’s this Well). It does exactly what the name says: makes my skin look bright and rosy.
