From her skincare routine to caring for her mental health, Chloë Grace Moretz’s beauty and wellness rituals are rooted in intention. So how is Moretz, who has been in the spotlight since she started acting at age six and stars in Amazon’s new sci-fi series The ringroad going out on October 21, keeping stress and anxiety at bay? Mixed martial arts training, which she enthusiastically shares. “I will do anything from muay thai to more recently I do judo and taekwondo from my most Kick ass days,” she explains. “It felt good to be able to hit the pads, learn combinations and figure out what I can do with my body.”
Over the course of her career, the 25-year-old star has applied the same dedication and determination to her skincare routine, which has seen its fair share of trial and error. When an Accutane treatment targeting her acne proved unsuccessful, she found that recalibrating with more natural ointments was the most beneficial for her skin. “Olive oil was one of the first things I incorporated into my face. [care] and my cystic acne started to clear up within about three to four months,” says Moretz, who lists dryness as one of his main concerns. “What I found was that oil begets oil in so many ways, so when I started using olive oil, it really made my skin type more neutral.”
To maintain a balanced complexion, Moretz emphasizes that consistency in skincare is essential. “I have a whole nighttime beauty routine that no one is going to get in the way of,” she says. These days, the 25-year-old relies on advice from The Natural Face Bible, soothing products and single-use biodegradable towels rather than washcloths, which she says keeps blemishes at bay in the past. beyond the rogue hormonal escape. After applying SK-II’s serums and essence, it’s time for what she calls a “face workout”: massage a roller of rose quartz along her face and neck for a lymphatic drainage. Next, eye cream (thanks to the instructions of her former The Guardian director, Emilio Estevez), moisturizer and SPF leave her skin prepped for her off-duty beauty look.
Starting with makeup, Moretz evens out her skin tone using Danessa Myricks Blurring Powder as her foundation followed by touches of Clé de Peau Concealer Stick. A warm blend of Merit’s Bronze Balm and Ilia’s Multi-Tasking Blush delivers a sheer wash of color before dipping into brows. She relies on the back end of Anastasia Beverly Hills’ applicator wand and the blast of a hair dryer to laminate them in place before a few strokes of her brow pencil. Next comes barely-there eyeshadow and eyeliner courtesy of two Charlotte Tilbury palettes, enhanced with an eyelash curler. Even with a vast market of beauty products on hand, Moretz still loves drugstore products, citing Maybelline’s Great Lash (mixed with a drop of water to prevent clumping) as her mascara of choice. With a mist of setting spray and a dab of Aquaphor on her lips, she’s combing her hair and ready to go out for lunch with friends. “Hope you’re having a good day!” she said, saying goodbye with her inimitable smile.
